Effective immediately, UPPER CUT is on an indefinite hiatus.

This is a regrettable situation, out of the hands of the producers of what was fast becoming San Francisco's best weekly improv showcase and jam.

Due to unforeseen circumstance with The Clubhouse, our regular performance space, we're forced to find another venue. Until then, all Upper Cut shows are suspended.

We thank all the groups and audience members who have shown up during our three month run for your support, and hope to bring you news of a new location soon!
Improvisation has a long history in the arts, including acting and music, but has most recently been celebrated in many forms of comedy performance. Some of our finest comedic actors have hailed from groups like Second City and The Groundlings, where they learned the art of improvisation as well as sketch comedy. Whose Line Is It Anyway was a wildly popular TV show in both Britain and the United States, featuring talented improvisers playing a wide range of games specially designed for improvisational techniques.

The skill of thinking on one's feet has applications far beyond entertaining on the stage. In business, the ability to address a boardroom or a trade show is invaluable, and improv can make sure you succeed far beyond where your prepared notes can take you. Likewise, in school, being able to stand up in class to make a presentation can make the difference between pass or fail. Even in social situations, having improv skills can easily increase your confidence level while, at the same time, make you comfortable talking with others whether one on one or in a large group.

The improvisation techniques taught at the San Francisco Comedy College's improv training program are taught in three Levels of Instruction – Shortform, Longform, and Original Form — and can be applied in many different ways. Helpful for those looking to get on stage, the improv elements we teach can be useful to standup comedians looking to feel more comfortable dealing with audiences. But they serve equally for the project manager having to put on a client presentation. And for those looking to truly immerse themselves in the improv experience, players coming out of our Performance level classes are encouraged to form groups that then get to play during our
Upper Cut improv showcase on Friday nights at The Clubhouse in downtown San Francisco. Along the way, to showcase the skills learned, each level builds to a performance which is held as the final class.
